This is an essential feature because one of the major demands of web hosting companies is to support configuration e-mails in MUAs.
Implementing this feature helps users and hosting companies. This feature was adopted by cPanel almost 10 years ago.
There is also an RFC that standardizes this feature through SRV records: tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6186

great idea! but please don't solve like CP with an external domain which will confuse the customers. Optimal from my point of view:
1. create a subdomain on a dedicated domain at the admins choice
2. place the scripts on this subdomain
3. then add this subdomain in dns for new (and existing) domains zones
